The road to State is still alive for the J-Hawks. The Urbandale boys soccer team delivered a dominant performance Wednesday night at Frerichs Field, defeating the Cedar Falls Tigers 5-1 in the Class 4A Substate 2 Semifinal. With the victory, Urbandale advances to the Substate 2 Final for the second consecutive season and will now host Ames on Friday, May 29, with a trip to the 2026 Iowa Class 4A State Tournament on the line.
The J-Hawks came out aggressive from the opening whistle and controlled the pace throughout the night, capitalizing on scoring opportunities and keeping pressure on the Tigers’ defense. Urbandale’s attack continued to shine as the offense found the back of the net five times in one of its strongest performances of the postseason.
Defensively, the J-Hawks remained composed and organized, limiting Cedar Falls’ chances while protecting home field at Frerichs Field. The 5-1 semifinal victory improves Urbandale’s postseason momentum as the team now sits one win away from returning to State in Class 4A this season.
Next up, the J-Hawks will host Ames in the Class 4A Substate 2 Championship on Friday, May 29 at Frerichs Field. Kickoff is set with a State Tournament berth on the line as Urbandale looks to punch its ticket to State for the second straight season.
