Trailing 40-37 heading into the fourth quarter, the St. Ansgar boys basketball team forced nine Nashua-Plainfield turnovers in the final eight minutes and outscored the Huskies 15-4 to pull out the 52-44 Top of Iowa East Conference victory.

And it was a balanced attack during that span on Monday, Dec. 11 for co-coaches Jason Squier and Eric Kline.

“Our guys have done a really nice job of understanding what we are trying to do defensively,” Kline said. “Staying in front of guys, ball pressure, fighting in front of screens so they don’t get that little space . . . and being there to help if help is needed. They’ve done a fantastic job. The first half of (the) Lake Mills (game) was fantastic defensively.

“For the most part, this whole game I thought we played great defense.”

Squier added, “A team like that is going to have spurts and runs. It’s how you respond to it. Do you hang your head and make it worse? Or, do you bow your neck and let’s go get ‘em?”
