The Union Knights boys and girls wrestling teams were in action Thursday (11/30) night in Traer, where they took on Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center, North Tama, and Vinton. It was the first action of the season for the boys team, while the girls returned to action.
The boys ended the night 3-0 as a team, which included a 48-36 win over Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center, a 65-9 win over North Tama, and a 48-30 win over Vinton. The Knights racked up 21 pins on the night, with Junior Brayden Bohnsack leading the way. Bohnsack wrestled for a combined 65-seconds where he earned his pins in 31-seconds, 17-seconds, and 17-seconds.
Junior Jace Hedeman came away with a victory in a ranked matchup. Hedeman, ranked #1 at 126-lbs in 2A, took on Case Monat of North Tama who was ranked #8 in 1A. Hedeman was able to pin Monat in 57-seconds. Senior Keegan Ellsworth took on two ranked opponents on the night. After dropping a decision to 1A #7 ranked Knaack from North Tama, he was then able to pin 2A #5 ranked Carter Lamont in 2:27.
The Union Knights girls wrestling team lost two close duals, 24-30 against North Tama and 15-18 against A-P/Grundy Center.
