Charles City Community, Baseball & Softball Spectators, Family & Friends:

With the announcement from Governor Reynolds on May 20th allowing for Iowa high schools to start their summer baseball and softball seasons on June 1st, a great deal of excitement has been created throughout the state.

Iowa is the first state in the country to resume interscholastic high school sports this summer. We will be fortunate enough to be the first competitive team sports to play in any high school, college, and professional associations nationwide. The entire country will be watching Iowa starting on June 15th. Therefore, it is imperative that we successfully navigate competitive team sports during the pandemic. If we are not successful, it could mean we miss out on fall and/or winter sports later this year.

As we have seen with many local stores and businesses, we must be adaptable to the COVID-19 mitigation strategies schools have implemented with help from County Public Health Departments. This summer will be unlike any other sports season and we should be thankful that our student athletes get the opportunity to do something that they truly enjoy. Some of the regulations that spectators at games must follow include:

  • - If you have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been around someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days please do not attend.
  • - Spectators are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer.
  • - No concessions will be available. School appropriate food and drinks are permitted.
  • - No shared food. If athletes need food, they must bring their own.... single household use only.
  • - Bleachers seating will be limited. It is recommended for spectators to bring their own chairs
  • and spread out.
  • - Admissions - Some schools will be asking for free will donation and others will not be charging.
  • Suggested donation is $5 per person to help cover school costs.
  • - Restrooms will be available.
  • - Due to events being held outside, masks are not required.
  • - SOCIAL DISTANCING IS REQUIRED. PLEASE MAINTAIN 6 FEET OF SPACE PER FAMILY UNIT!!!!
  • Regardless of the requirements, we ask that you remain respectful and compliant when you visit all fields and school facilities for events. The public health officials, school administrators, and coaches who have developed these strategies are doing their best and working hard to create a safe and healthy environment for all. Spectators not following social distancing and/or behavioral expectations will be asked to leave the contest.
  • We are fortunate to have an opportunity to play baseball and softball this summer and our fans are fortunate to be able to attend. Let’s show the rest of the world this can be done safely and that we can be respectful to our neighboring schools and facilities when visiting.
  • We look forward to seeing all fans and parents at fields and complexes in the near future! Play Ball!!
